| 2011: the start of a great decade for criminal? On 7th January 2011 a message of the day appeared in the name of the Chief Constable and included the following: "following further analysis undertaken to establish our budget position, it has become clear that we will need to make significant savings much sooner than the Nine Steps Programme plans had anticipated. "This means that a proposal to accelerate the programme including the restructure and reorganisation of the workforce has been put forward to take place this calendar year." We are no strangers to cuts. By 2001 / 2002 North Yorkshire police were approaching 50% of operational officers assaulted in any one year. On 11th January 2011 the Joint Branch Board passed the following resolution: North Yorkshire Police Federation Joint Branch Board instructs the JBB Chairman, JBB Secretary and JBB Treasurer to raise at every opportunity in any forum the concerns of the Joint Branch Board at the proposed reduction in police numbers over the next four years to ensure their views and concerns for the impact this will have on the policing of North Yorkshire and the City of York... read more on our website |

| Criminal Justice landscape review - National Audit Office: December 2010 The criminal justice system, overseen by the Home Office, the Ministry of Justice and the Attorney General's Office, is intended to cut crime, protect the public and punish offenders. Under the current constitution and structure of government, there can be no single 'owner' of the criminal justice system. The system is complex, responsibilities cross different departments and involve a wide range of delivery partners, and it involves a wide range of activities and objectives. This 'Landscape Review' is aimed at providing an overview of recent criminal justice performance and practice. The findings are based on the evidence that has been collected in the course of recent value for money studies, and also on the wealth of documentary evidence in the public domain. The aim is to inform the debate on future developments in the criminal justice system and especially on how the government can achieve better services for less expenditure.
